Who we are. Black Talent Initiative (“BTI,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a community organization dedicated to creating equitable pathways for Black Canadians to succeed through networking, mentorship, career opportunities, and community events. These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of BTI websites, applications, and services, including any media experiences, events, conferences, or other activities made available through the Platform (collectively, the “Services”).
By accessing or using the Services, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated by reference. If you do not agree, do not use the Services.
The Services are not directed to individuals under 13. If you are under the age of majority in your province or territory, you must have your parent or legal guardian's consent to use the Services.
To access certain features (e.g., event registration, career hub, community networking), you may need a BTI Community Hub account. You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information and keep it updated.
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activities under your account. Notify us immediately at info@blacktalentinitiative.network of any unauthorized use.
Your use of the Services is subject to our Privacy Policy, which describes how BTI collects, uses, discloses, and safeguards personal information in accordance with PIPEDA and CASL. The Privacy Policy also explains cookies, third-party data processing, consent, and your access and correction rights.
BTI's mission is to create equitable pathways for Black Canadians to succeed through networking, mentorship, career opportunities, and community events. The Services may include:
No guarantee. BTI does not guarantee admission to programs, placement in jobs, employment outcomes, or specific introductions or business results.
You agree not to:
We may remove content or suspend/terminate accounts for violations.
You retain ownership of content you submit (e.g., profiles, posts, messages, resumes, feedback).
You grant BTI a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicensable and transferable license to host, store, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works from, distribute, publicly perform and display your content in connection with operating, improving, and promoting the Services.
You represent that you have all rights necessary to grant the above license and that your content complies with these Terms and applicable law.
If you provide ideas or suggestions, you grant BTI the right to use them without restriction or compensation.
Participation in BTI events may be subject to additional terms, venue policies, and health & safety rules. You agree to comply with all such terms.
Events may be recorded, photographed, or live-streamed. By attending, you consent to the capture and use of your image, likeness, name, voice, and statements for editorial, educational, and promotional purposes by BTI and authorized event partners, without compensation, as permitted by law. If you have concerns, contact us prior to the event at events@blacktalentinitiative.network; accommodations may be available subject to feasibility.
BTI seeks inclusive, respectful environments. Harassment or abusive behaviour is prohibited. We may remove any participant who violates policies, without refund.
Certain Services (e.g., paid events) may require fees processed by Stripe, our third-party payment provider. You authorize Stripe to charge your selected payment method for all fees, taxes, and charges. BTI does not store your payment card details.
Except as required by law or expressly stated on the relevant event or offer page, all fees are non-refundable.
BTI may modify pricing prospectively at any time. Posted changes will not affect prior purchases unless noted.
The Services and all content provided by BTI (including trademarks, logos, text, graphics, software, and audiovisual works) are owned by BTI or its licensors and are protected by Canadian and international laws. Except as expressly permitted, you may not use, reproduce, modify, distribute, or create derivative works from the Services or BTI content.
The Services may integrate or link to third-party platforms, social media, or advertisers. Your use of those services is governed by their terms and privacy policies — not these Terms or our Privacy Policy. BTI is not responsible for third-party content, actions, or policies. Some service providers may process data outside Canada, as noted in our Privacy Policy.
By creating an account, registering for an event, or otherwise engaging with the Services, you consent to receiving transactional and informational communications (e.g., confirmations, updates, security notices). You may also opt-in to promotional communications about BTI events and opportunities; you can unsubscribe at any time via the link in any promotional email. Transactional messages that we must send will continue regardless of unsubscribe preferences.
The Services are provided “as is” and “as available.” To the maximum extent permitted by law, BTI and its directors, officers, employees, representatives, partners, and suppliers disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including any warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, non-infringement, or that the Services will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free. Career, mentorship, or program outcomes are not guaranteed.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, BTI and its directors, officers, employees, representatives, partners, and suppliers shall not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages; lost profits, revenue, or data; or business interruption arising out of or related to these Terms or the Services, even if advised of the possibility. In all cases, the total aggregate liability of BTI for claims arising from or relating to the Services shall not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid to BTI for the service giving rise to the claim during the 3 months prior to the event giving rise to liability, or (b) CAD $100.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations; in those cases, the above limitations apply to the fullest extent permitted.
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless BTI and its directors, officers, employees, representatives, partners, and suppliers from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to: (a) your use of the Services; (b) your content; (c) your violation of these Terms or applicable law; or (d) your violation of any third-party rights.
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Services at any time, with or without notice, for conduct that we believe violates these Terms, applicable law, or is harmful to other users, BTI, or third parties. You may stop using the Services at any time. Sections that by their nature should survive (e.g., 5–13, 15–19) will survive termination.
We may modify or discontinue portions of the Services at any time. We may also update these Terms from time to time. Changes take effect when posted to the Platform. Your continued use of the Services after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. Please review periodically.
You agree to comply with all applicable laws and regulations. BTI's collection, use, and disclosure of personal information are governed by the Privacy Policy, PIPEDA, and CASL. Where third-party processors are located outside Canada, your information may be subject to the laws of those jurisdictions (as described in the Privacy Policy).
We may offer beta or experimental features that are pre-release and may change or be discontinued at any time. They are provided “as is,” and you use them at your own risk.
BTI will not be liable for delays or failures due to causes beyond reasonable control, including acts of God, labour disputes, power outages, internet failures, pandemics, public health events, or governmental actions.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. You agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the provincial or federal courts located in Toronto, Ontario for any disputes arising out of or relating to the Services or these Terms.
These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and any additional event-specific terms, constitute the entire agreement between you and BTI regarding the Services and supersede prior agreements.
Failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. If any provision is found unenforceable, it will be enforced to the maximum extent permitted and the remainder will remain in effect.
You may not assign or transfer these Terms; BTI may assign these Terms in connection with a merger, acquisition, corporate reorganization, or asset transfer.
