What We Do

Our Impact

Since 2020, Black Talent Initiative has grown from a response to a crisis into a sustained platform for change. Through signature events, strategic partnerships, and community-driven programming, BTI has connected thousands of Black professionals, creators, entrepreneurs, and students with the networks, resources, and opportunities they need to advance.

Community Reach

BTI operates across Canada, with a primary presence in Toronto and Winnipeg. Our events and programs bring together professionals at every career stage, from students and early-career talent to executives and entrepreneurs. Each gathering is built to foster meaningful connections, not just attendance.

  • Toronto. Our home base and largest community, hosting flagship events including Unbounded, Ignite Toronto, Navigate Summit, Juneteenth Commemoration, and Friday Meetups.
  • Winnipeg. A growing regional hub through the Ignite series, expanding BTI’s reach into the Prairies and connecting with local Black professionals and organizations.

Event Programming

BTI’s events are the primary vehicle for our mission. Each one is designed around a specific goal within the broader framework of Connect, Cultivate, and Champion.

  • Unbounded. BTI’s summer flagship event, bringing together Black professionals and corporate leaders for a day of networking, panels, and keynotes focused on career advancement and industry access.
  • Ignite. A regional event series (Toronto and Winnipeg) designed to spark connections between Black talent and local industry leaders. Ignite events are intimate, high-energy, and focused on relationship-building.
  • Navigate Summit. BTI’s fall conference, centred on strategic career navigation, leadership development, and sector expertise. Navigate brings together thought leaders, mentors, and emerging talent for in-depth workshops and conversations.
  • Juneteenth Commemoration. An annual celebration honouring Black history, culture, and resilience. Part reflection, part celebration, Juneteenth is one of BTI’s most meaningful community moments each year.
  • Friday Meetups. Recurring informal gatherings that keep the community connected between major events. Low-key, accessible, and designed for genuine conversation.

Partnership Ecosystem

BTI’s impact is built on authentic partnerships with organizations that share our commitment to equity and inclusion. Our partners span corporate, public, and community sectors, and each relationship is designed to deliver tangible value to our community.

  • Corporate partners. Organizations including RBC, Microsoft, Canada Life, CBC, OLG, NBA, and Jamieson support BTI through sponsorship, programming, and talent pipeline initiatives.
  • Community partners. We collaborate with grassroots organizations, post-secondary institutions, and local community groups to ensure our programming is responsive to what Black Canadians actually need.
  • Ecosystem partners. BTI works alongside other organizations in the diversity, equity, and inclusion space, amplifying collective impact rather than duplicating effort.

Impact Priorities

As BTI enters its next chapter, our focus is sharpening around three priorities:

  • Deepening career pathways. Moving beyond one-time events to sustained mentorship, career coaching, and talent pipeline programs that produce measurable outcomes.
  • Expanding regional presence. Growing our Ignite series and community programming into new Canadian cities, ensuring BTI’s reach reflects the geographic diversity of Black Canada.
  • Strengthening the digital community. Investing in the BTI Community Hub as a year-round platform for connection, career resources, and professional development.

Support the Work

BTI is powered by the generosity of our partners, sponsors, and community members. Every contribution, whether through partnership, membership, or direct support, helps us expand programming, reach more communities, and create lasting change.
